If you would like to join the Rother Citizens Panel, please email:  citizenspanel@rother.gov.uk and ask for a registration form.

Why should I join the Rother Citizens' Panel?

This is your opportunity to influence the decisions made in Rother and your local area. Consultation helps the Council and its partners to make decisions. We want to make sure we get it right for the people of Rother. The Panel is a cost effective and efficient way to consult with local residents. Every Panel member's opinions will be influential in the decision making process.  The results of consultations are combined with customer data, performance data and information on resources in order to decide what to do next.

What is the Rother Citizens' Panel?

The Rother Citizens' Panel is the main way that Rother District Council consults with local people on issues of importance in your local area.  It is made up of people who have volunteered to be contacted on a regular basis.  They have given their information to the Council to be kept in a database.

What will I be expected to do?

You are invited to take part in at least three consultations each year.  This could take the form of a postal survey, telephone survey, discussion group or a workshop.  The Council tries to make sure that there is no cost to you to take part and it doesn't take up a lot of your time.  For example, we provide pre-paid reply envelopes for postal surveys.  Any survey should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.

We will also keep you up to date on other consultations and events, such as public meetings and public exhibitions that may be of interest to you.

You don't have to complete every survey and you don't have to attend discussion groups. It is still your choice whether or not (or how much) you participate.

Why do you ask for personal information on the registration form?

The registration form asks for some personal information. We use this information to make sure that we only consult with you on issues that are or might be of interest to you. We also need to make sure that the Citizens Panel matches the type of population in Rother to make sure it is reasonably representative.

Most surveys will ask for similar personal information.  That information helps us to identify if specific groups of people have a particular opinion or need or a different experience than other groups of people. Your participation in any consultation is likely to be anonymous and we won't identify individuals in reports.

How do you provide for people with disabilities?

The Panel is open to everybody. We can provide surveys in large print (about 40 members get large print letters and forms). we can also provide audio and Braille versions for people with sight problems or by email or on a CD. Help can be arranged for residents who require other assistance. We only hold discussion groups at places that are fully accessible to people with disabilities.
