The Council works in partnership with Sussex Police towards reducing crime risks in the building environment.

It is accepted that design and environmental factors, including concepts of defensible space, natural surveillance, security lighting, access control and security hardware can have an effect on the potential for crime. Such measures are more cost effective at the planning stage so developers and their architects are strongly advised to consult the Sussex Police Crime prevention Design Adviser, at any early stage. Rother District Planning Department consults Sussex Police on those applications where crime prevention issues are likely to be a concern.
