Marley Lane / A21 JunctionA Highway scheme for the improvement of the junction of Marley Lane and the A21 (trunk road) to increase business and employment in rural rother and the A21 business corridor. The Rother Local Plan identifies Marley Lane, Battle as a strategic employment location, being home to a three key employment sites, which have potential for further development for employment use. A critical factor inhibiting development is the need to undertake improvements to the road junction between Marley Lane and the A21. The scheme proposed was to upgrade the existing simple T junction to a right-turn ghost island facility. To achieve the carriageway widths necessary for the right-turn facility, widening is proposed on the western verge of the A21(T) around the junction. A traffic island was proposed within the Marley Lane carriageway and re-aligned kerb line. The outcome of this project is the delivery of a road junction improvement that will cater for the anticipated increased traffic flows in Marley lane after the full development of available commercial sites in Marley Lane. Rother District Council worked with key partners including SEEDA, East Sussex County Council, The Highways Agency and private businesses to implement this scheme.
