Site Identification Consultation

As part of the Local Development Framework (LDF), Rother District Council invited the submission of sites for consideration. The period for submitting sites ran for more than a year and closed on the 30/01/2009. The Council is now evaluating and considering the sites and the information it has received. Sites that were proposed as suitable for residential development will be assessed as part of the process of producing a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) over the course of 2009. There will be further opportunities to comment on sites and bring new ones to the Council's attention as part of the Issues and Options process of the Site Allocations DPD which is expected to take place in mid 2012.

Like all local authorities, Rother has development targets which are set at the regional level by the Regional Assembly. The South East Plan requires an annual average of 280 new homes to be built in Rother every year up to 2026. Whilst Rother District Council will be obliged to meet this overall requirement, the Council does have the choice as to where this development is best located. With this in mind, it is important to note that while submissions on rural and greenfield sites were accepted for consideration, the Council will give preference to brownfield sites in environmentally sustainable locations, such as within development boundaries.
