Are there any circumstances where the 1 bedroom LHA rate can be paid instead of the Shared Room LHA rate for a single adult under 35 years old?

Yes, but one of the following needs to apply.

  • The claimant is between 25 and 35 and subject to assistance under an active Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangement (MAPPA).
  • The claimant is between 25 and 35 and has been assisted by support services to be resettled having spent three months or more in hostel accommodation.
  • The claimant qualifies for a severe disability premium as part of their benefit assessment.
  • The claimant has one or more non-dependants living with them.
