What is a Rent Officer's decision?

Housing Benefit can help pay a reasonable level of rent, but the amount the claimant receives is based on the claimant's personal circumstances and may not be the same as they agreed to pay to their landlord. The Rent Service will make a series of valuations, which are called determinations. These determinations give the council the reasonable rent figure which will be used to work out the benefit. These are also known as "The Rent Officer's Decision". This only applies to pre LHA cases.
