Planning and Building Control

Do I need planning permission?

It depends on the type of work to be done, whether you are a commercial or private property and whether the building is listed, is in a conservation area or has any other constraints. Verbal confirmation cannot be provided as checks need to be made and every property is different.

The Planning Portal provides basic guidance for householders.

To find out if you need planning permission write to or email our Planning Department with your proposal, including a simple plan showing dimensions and distances from boundaries and any other information that you feel relevant. We will reply in writing within 10 working days.
