What is Procurement?

This page provides information on Procurement at Rother District Council.

Procurement covers the process by which goods, works and services are acquired from suppliers and managed throughout their life.

Consequently, procurement is core to achieving the Council's Corporate Plan and its four aims:

  • Putting Customers First
  • Delivering Value for Money
  • Building Stronger, Safer Communities
  • Working in Partnership

This can be achieved through our Corporate Objectives:

  • Directing our resources efficiently to deliver effective outcomes
  • Aligning procurement with other agencies
  • Maximising the value of selected partnerships

Rother District Council's Procurement Strategy was agreed by Cabinet on 17 October 2005 and reflects the National Procurement Strategy for Local Government, which was launched by the Government in October 2003.

What is the Procurement Officer responsible for?

The Procurement Officer is responsible for setting strategy and policy; co-ordinating the procurement processes across the organisation. The Council seeks to continually strive to improve its processes by bringing innovation to procurement and obtaining best value from all its contracts. For this reason Rother District Council actively seeks opportunities for joint working with its public sector partners in Sussex, through the Sussex Procurement Group and East Sussex Procurement Hub.
