Crime Prevention
The Council works in partnership with Sussex Police towards reducing crime risks in the building environment.
Replacement Windows
The planning position relating to replacement windows is as follows:
Lighting
Artificial light as such is not classed as development and therefore does not require planning permission.
Advertisements
The Control of Advertisement Regulations 1992 cover the erection and display of all types of signs and notices.
Shopfronts
The character of a town or village may be considerably altered by the insertion of an inappropriate shop front.
Contaminated Land
If it is suspected that an application site may have been contaminated by previous uses or from an adjoining site, a full investigation into the extent of contamination may have to be carried out and provided with your application.
Drainage/Waste Disposal
A planning application should show that adequate provision has been made for the disposal of surface/foul water and for the disposal of any waste produced.
Classes A3, A4 and A5 Uses
In relation to odour control and environmental impact the Council has adopted the following guidelines for applicants:
Odour
If the proposal is likely to cause an odour, (restaurant, kitchen extract systems or certain manufacturing and agricultural processes for example) details of measures to suppress the odour should be submitted with the application.
Flat Conversions
It is important to ensure adequate sound insulation is provided between the separate units of accommodation in flat conversions and with new non-detached properties.
Environmental Input
As part of the consideration of a planning application particularly for development in the commercial and business sector it is often necessary to consult the Environmental Health Division.
