Question 03/17

Q. There has been quite a lot of speculation in the past regarding the possibility of a supermarket chain moving into the Beeching Road, Bexhill area. My question is whether there is any current intention to develop the current sites which have fallen into disrepair and overgrown. (24/01/2017)

A. Interest had been expressed in the past by a supermarket chain seeking to develop a store at the southern end of Beeching Road, however we are not aware of any active proposals at the present time.  The Council's draft Development and Site Allocations Plan, which is currently open for a ten week public consultation ending on Monday 20 February, identifies this area as a preferred option for a possible retail (foodstore) development within draft policy BEX15.  This will be subject to further consultation later in 2017, before consideration by an independent Inspector through an Examination in Public.  Once adopted this would set the policy to inform any  future planning application that may come forward.
