Information as at 31 March 2014 (to be updated for year ending 31 March 2015).

A. Number of occasions powers used to investigate;

  • Social housing fraud - 0
  • Council tax fraud - 0
  • Benefit fraud - 24
  • Other fraud (e.g. employee fraud) - 0

B.  Total number (absolute and full time equivalent) of employees undertaking investigations and prosecutions of fraud;

1.2 FTEs (based on RDC proportion of shared officers with Hastings Borough Council).

C. Total number (absolute and full time equivalent) of professionally accredited counter fraud specialists;

1 FTE.

D. Amount spent by the authority on the investigation and prosecution of fraud;


E. Number of fraud cases investigated;

Housing Benefit Fraud

Number of cases between 01/04/2013 and 31/03/2014. 24 cases were investigated that resulted in action ranging from an overpayment for benefit being calculated, discount being cancelled to sanctions including prosecution at court. The total value of these cases was nearly £94,000.
