Community's chance to bid for Bexhill bowls club site

Community's chance to bid for Bexhill bowls club site

COMMUNITY groups are being offered the chance to express an interest in buying part of a bowls club in Bexhill which has been put up for sale.

Gullivers Bowls Club in Knole Road, is listed as an Asset of Community Value, meaning it has been officially registered as being of social importance to the community.  The Bowls Club has recently notified the Council of its intention to sell part of the site.

Under the scheme, also known as the 'Community Right To Bid', community groups must be given the opportunity to make a bid to purchase a property that has been registered as an Asset of Community Value.

Such properties may include pubs, village shops, libraries or open spaces, to preserve their social value.

If any community groups wish to be treated as a potential bidder for the site, they have until Friday, February 27, 2015 to express their interest in writing to Rother District Council.

The scheme, introduced under the Localism Act 2011, does not mean the owner of the bowls club is obliged to sell to any community group making a bid.

Any eligible community groups wishing to express an interest in bidding for the club are asked to contact the council by emailing or writing to
Mr Burgess at Town Hall, London Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, TN39 3JX.
