Healthier lifestyles

Healthier lifestyles can help to reduce ill health and absenteeism through exercise and a balanced diet and lifestyle.

Many employers already provide subsidised gym membership, or fitness classes and activities at lunchtime, for example. Others encourage staff to cycle or walk to work.

Exercise can improve life expectancy, reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, boost the immune system and reduce stress levels.

If you are interested in helping your employees enjoy better health and well being, please visit East Sussex County Council's Health Promotion Resources

You can also add healthier food choices to the menu in staff canteens. Providing a calorie count for menu items can also help people to choose healthier foods. Rother/Wealden run an award to recognise those who provide healthier food choices to customers. To see if your staff canteen could be eligible for an award please visit Eat Out Eat Well
