Health and safety training

Health and safety training

All staff, whether shop floor or managers, need to be properly informed and trained to help keep the workplace safe and healthy.

The level and nature of training depends on the work carried out and the risks it poses.

There are three types of training:

  • Induction - usually when a person starts. This should cover the risk assessments and safety policy of the business, and areas such as fire, first aid, the workplace
  • On the Job - specific training relating to the work carried out, such as operating a machine, or separating people from vehicles
  • Refresher - update training to take account of changes in the workplace or the need to keep knowledge up to date

Most businesses ask their employees to sign a training record to say they have received and understood the training given. This helps to prevent dispute and conflict later should anything go wrong.
