Rye Neighbourhood Plan

Rye Town Council, as the qualifying body, has prepared a Neighbourhood Plan for the town. The Plan proposes a vision for the town and a number of planning policies to be used in the determination of planning applications locally.


Submission Rye Neighbourhood Plan (Regulation 16)

Rye Town Council submitted the Rye Neighbourhood Plan and associated documents, including the Strategic Environmental Assessment, to Rother District Council in accordance with Regulation 15 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (as amended).

Rother District Council carried out a formal public consultation on the submitted Plan, in accordance with Regulation 16 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012 (as amended) between Friday 16 November 2018 and Friday 11 January 2019.

Examination of the Rye Neighbourhood Plan

Appointed Independent Examiner

John Slater has been appointed as Examiner, in liaison with Rye Town Council, to undertake the Examination. The Neighbourhood Plan, supporting documents and representations have been forwarded to the Examiner.

Initial Comments of the Independent Examiner

Initial comments from the Examiner were received by Rother District Council on Tuesday 19 February 2019.

Submission Publicity and Representation Period (Regulation 16)

Rother District Council carried out the Regulation 16 submission publicity and representation period on the Rye Neighbourhood Plan between 16 November 2018 and 11 January 2019.

October 2018

Submission of the Rye Neighbourhood Plan (Regulation 15)

Rye Town Council submitted the Rye Neighbourhood Plan to Rother District Council. See Submission Documents above.

Regulation 14 Pre-submission Consultation

Rye Town Council carried out the Regulation 14 pre-submission consultation on the draft Rye Neighbourhood Plan between 23 February and 6 April 2018.

August 2015

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening Opinion

On 25 August 2015, Rother District Council provided a formal SEA Screening Opinion for the Rye Neighbourhood Plan.

November 2013

Designation of Rye Parish as a Neighbourhood Plan Area

Rother District Council confirmed that, in accordance with Regulation 7 of the Neighbourhood Plan (General) Regulations 2012 (as amended), the marked area shown on the submitted map (being that of the Parish boundary) was formally designated as the Rye Parish Neighbourhood Plan Area.

July 2013

Application for the designation of a Neighbourhood Plan Area

In accordance with Part 2, Regulation 5 (1) of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012, Rye Town Council (as the relevant body) submitted to Rother District Council an application for the designation of a Neighbourhood Plan Area.

This application included the following:

  • A map which identifies the area to which the area application relates
  • A statement explaining why the area is considered appropriate to be designated as a Neighbourhood Plan Area
  • A statement setting out why Rye Town Council is a relevant body for the purposes of section 61G of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990
